About Me
I’ve had a love for animals since before I can remember. I was constantly outside as a child, catching all manner of scaly, slimy, many-legged “friends” and terrorizing my Mother when I would sneak them into the house.
I remember when people would ask me what I wanted to pursue when I was older; I’d always be torn between working with animals and becoming a ninja assassin.
Obviously one seemed a little more attainable, and so I took a path towards learning more about these living things.
Fast forward several years later and I had graduated with a Bachelor’s in Biology and Marine Science. For as much as I gained during my time as a student (which I believe will never really end), there’s always more to be learned. It’s amazing what you can discover about animals just by spending time around them every day, watching how they live, and how they interact with their surroundings.
I loved all manner of creatures, but I was never able to observe reptiles on a day-to-day basis until I owned one as an adult. These cold-blooded creatures seemed so far removed from the way mammals interacted, and the large gap there did sometimes frighten me. I realize now how misunderstood these animals are for this very reason. I hope that more people can observe and learn about these animals, so that they may understand them a tiny bit better. I know not everyone is a reptile lover, but at the very least, I’d like to make people think twice before disregarding these (and other) animals as just dangerous pests, or unintelligent, cold-blooded killers.
I think, fundamentally, if you’re able to open your mind to the way all animals contribute to this world, and learn to respect and appreciate them, it’s the first step in becoming the type of person who extends the same kindness towards our own species.
